A hauntingly lovely, dirge-like ballad rooted in gospel, "In the Ghetto" is by no means a protest song, which is no doubt why it works; as the richest and most famous of all pop icons, Elvis was more distanced from the true inner workings of American life than any of his contemporaries, yet the song's simple yet grimly poetic lyrics (written by a then-unknown Mac Davis) bear no trace .

There are of course many 'Greatest Hits' albums out there to choose from. all equally desirable, in truth, I myself own a few of them, however, I have to say this release is a great reflection of the 'King's' best loved songs during his short 21 year spell as just about the greatest solo artist of all-time.5/5(7).

  8. I sat down to listen to the CD with her this afternoon. I thought that it was a superb album and contains most of his major hits. My mum and I prefer his s and s recordings, but we still enjoyed most of the album. It is an excellent collection of his hits and should satisfy most Elvis fans, or anyone interested in that kind of music/5().

  9. "In the Ghetto" (originally titled "The Vicious Circle") is a song recorded by Elvis Presley and written by Mac Davis. It was a major hit released in as a part of Presley's comeback album with " Any Day Now " as the flip side.
